The Best Things to Do in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg

Dollywood, the national park, The Island, dinner shows and rainy-day picks — how to plan your Smoky Mountains days, with drive times from our Pigeon Forge condos.

Pigeon Forge puts you in the middle of everything in the Smokies. Here's how we'd spend a trip, with approximate drive times from our condos. THE BIG DAYS OUT • Dollywood — Coasters, craftsmen, Smoky Mountain music and seasonal festivals. About 10 minutes away. • Dollywood's Splash Country — Slides, lazy river and wave pool next door to Dollywood. Seasonal. • Great Smoky Mountains National Park — Hiking, waterfalls and Cades Cove. No entry fee, but you do need a parking tag. The gateway is about 20 minutes away. ON THE PARKWAY • The Island in Pigeon Forge — The Great Smoky Mountain Wheel, fountain shows, rides, shops and restaurants in one spot. About 5 minutes away. • Titanic Museum Attraction — Walk the grand staircase with a real passenger's boarding pass. Book ahead in busy weeks. • WonderWorks — The upside-down house with hands-on science exhibits, a ropes course and laser tag. • Crave Golf Club — Candy-themed indoor and rooftop mini golf, perfect after dinner. EVENING SHOWS • Dolly Parton's Stampede — Dinner show with horses, stunts and a four-course meal. • The Comedy Barn Theater — Clean, family-friendly comedy, magic and animal acts. UP IN GATLINBURG (ABOUT 20 MINUTES) • Anakeesta — Ride the Chondola to treetop skywalks, gardens and ridge-top views. • Gatlinburg SkyLift Park — Chairlift up to the SkyBridge, the longest pedestrian suspension bridge in North America. • Ober Mountain — Aerial tramway, snow tubing, ice skating and skiing in season. • Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies — Shark tunnel, penguins and a stingray touch pool. Our favorite rainy-day plan. Tip: Plan one big outing per day (Dollywood or the national park) and fill evenings with The Island or a dinner show. Traffic on the Parkway is heaviest late afternoon.
